Dental Implants in Cleveland, OH

If you are missing one or more teeth, you could be a good candidate for dental implants. An implant is a small post that acts as a substitute for the root of a tooth. This post, typically made of titanium, is surgically placed into your jaw. Once the implant is placed, it can act as a strong, permanent base for replacement teeth. It's important that you have overall good oral health when you get the implants surgically inserted. The professionals at Ryba Dentistry can help you determine if permanent artificial teeth are right for you. In the meantime, keep reading to learn more about how they work and how they can benefit you.

The Dental Implant Procedure?

Each implant procedure is unique, but you can expect this general process over the course of several appointments.

●  Tooth Extraction. If any of your teeth need to be removed, the dentist will take care of this first.

●  Surgical Placement. The implant screws will be surgically placed into your jawbone. Anesthesia is used, making this a pain-free surgery. The dentist uses self-absorbing sutures to stitch up the insertion areas.  This procedure is completed at an outside specialty office, with a referral from Ryba Dentistry.

●  Placement of Abutments. After a healing time, the top part of the implant, called an abutment, is tightened onto the dental implant post.

●  Placement of Artificial Teeth. Once the abutment is in place, the artificial tooth can be placed securely on it. Partial or complete sets of artificial teeth can also be attached to the implants.

How Long Do Implants Last?

An implant is considered a long-lasting solution for replacing missing teeth. They typically do their job well for 10-20 years. Why does this procedure work so well? The titanium metal they are made of is very strong and is inert, which means it does not cause reactions with the surrounding bone and gum tissue. Furthermore, when the implants are inserted into the jawbone, the bone actually fuses around the implants, firmly keeping them in place.

To preserve permanent false teeth, it's important to continue practicing good oral hygiene practices. Brushing and flossing regularly are still necessary to keep your mouth healthy. You also need to keep getting regular dental checkups.

Types of Dental Implants offered at Ryba Dentistry

Endosteal implants are a type of dental implant that requires a titanium screw to be surgically inserted into your jawbone. The screw remains in the bone, beneath the gums. A post, called an abutment, is then connected to the implant, and a permanent replacement tooth is attached securely to the post.
