Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride Treatment in Cleveland, OH

Preventing dental problems is the best way to keep your teeth strong and beautiful. While brushing, flossing, routine dental exams, and professional cleanings play a critical role in protecting your teeth, there are additional ways to keep your teeth decay-free. Fluoride treatments are a quick, safe, and convenient preventative dental treatment that can help protect your teeth from cavities and reduce sensitivity. Before scheduling your next appointment with the friendly team at Ryba Dentistry, here's what you should know about fluoride teeth treatments.

What is a Fluoride Treatment?

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral found in some foods and water. The American Dental Association and Food and Drug Administration recommend using fluoride to help relieve tooth sensitivity and protect the enamel of your teeth from being affected by cavities. Your enamel loses minerals when eating acidic foods, putting them at greater risk of developing decay; having a fluoride treatment at the dentist can help restore these minerals to your enamel. Fluoride treatments are quick, easy, inexpensive, and conveniently done at your bi-annual checkup and cleaning.

Fluoride Treatment at the Dentist

A fluoride treatment only takes a few moments to complete. When you undergo a fluoride treatment at Ryba Dentistry, one of our clinicians will carefully brush the fluoride varnish onto the surface of your teeth. After the treatment, the dentist will review the aftercare instructions with you, including not eating anything hot, sticky, or crunchy for two hours. It's normal for your teeth to feel a little sticky after the procedure. This feeling is temporary and will go away within a few hours.

Are Fluoride Treatments Safe?

Fluoride treatments are perfectly safe for adults and children alike. The concentration of fluoride used in our practice is within the FDA and ADA guidelines and carries minimal risk of adverse effects.

Who Should Get Fluoride Treatments?

Fluoride teeth treatments are beneficial for individuals who may have difficulty cleaning their teeth or are prone to cavities, such as people who:

  • Don't practice good oral hygiene

  • Currently have cavities

  • Have had cavities in the past

  • Struggle with dry mouth

  • Don't have access to routine dental care

One of our trusted dentists will determine if a fluoride treatment could benefit you based on your oral health and risk of cavities.
