Professional teeth whitening is a good option for people who are interested in lightening the shade of their stained teeth but otherwise have healthy teeth and gums. It's important to note that teeth whitening is not effective on prosthetic teeth or teeth that have been discolored due to an injury.

Teeth Whitening at Ryba Dentistry

At Ryba Dentistry, we offer two professional whitening options: in-office whitening and a take-home whitening kit. The dental whitening in-office option includes a take-home whitening kit for future touch-up whitening. 

 

Our first option is in-office Zoom! Whitening. The process takes about 90 minutes. Here's what you can expect from an in-office teeth whitening treatment:

• First, our team will take impressions of your teeth to make custom trays, which will be given to you at the end of your treatment as a part of your included take-home touch-up kit. 

• Next, we will isolate your teeth from your lips, cheeks, gums using retractors and a material called liquidam. 

• Then, we paint the Zoom! whitening gel on each tooth, and place a blue light over your teeth for 15 minutes. 

• We repeat this process three more times, for a total of one hour of whitening.

 

In-office dental whitening yields instant, noticeable results. We will send you home with the take-home whitening kit for home use as needed to maintain the results of the in-office whitening. Most patients use their at-home kits every 6 months or so to keep their smiles looking great.

Our second option is a take-home whitening (without the in-office Zoom! session). For this option, we take molds of your teeth and make custom trays for you. Once they're ready, we provide you with professional-grade whitening gel to fill inside the custom trays, which you'll wear for 2-4 hours per day until you achieve the desired results.

In-office dental whitening offers safe and predictable whitening results.  While some over-the-counter whitening agents do a decent job of whitening discolored teeth, others may contain ingredients that can cause permanent damage to your enamel. For this reason, we always recommend whitening products that are available through dentists rather than over-the-counter agents available online.

After your teeth have been professionally whitened, patients should avoid staining-causing foods for 24 hours to allow the pores in the enamel to fill in with the natural proteins found in your saliva. This will prevent stains from seeping into the pores that are still open directly after whitening.​

Is Professional Teeth Whitening Painful?

For most patients, cosmetic teeth whitening is virtually painless. Experiencing tooth sensitivity is common in the first 24 hours after whitening, however, this should resolve on its own quickly.
